Webinar Evolving Clinical Efficiency with Mixed Reality Technology

By  Insight UK / 7 Dec 2021

By pushing health and social care services to their limits, the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the sector’s impressive, and perhaps somewhat surprising, ability to quickly adapt to unprecedented challenge. Despite many areas of success however, the impact of the pandemic has revealed several efficiency challenges within the health and social care workforce ecosystem. Issues such as staff shortages, resource waste, and reliance on outdated technology and processes have placed a strain on staff and ultimately impacted patient care outcomes. One call for action is to utilise innovative technology.

Chaired by Dr Harpreet Sood, this webinar examined how mixed reality technology can be used to create new and innovative solutions to efficiency challenges faced by health and social care staff on a day-to-day basis with the potential to increase patient safety. This webinar also generated rich debate on how mixed reality technology can aid staff training and development across hospitals and community-based care.

Insight together with Microsoft, ‘Public Policy Projects (PPP)’ and ‘Hospital Times’ addressed how mixed reality technology, such as Microsoft HoloLens 2 and Dynamics 365 Remote Assist, can bring the following benefits:

  • Support remote teaching and learning
  • Support emergency procedures by dialling in expertise remotely when required
  • Increase speed and quality of safe care delivery
  • Facilitate collaboration between different care centres and across the healthcare ecosystem
  • Reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection for patients

To understand the logistical adoption of mixed reality technology, this webinar also discussed:

  • How can the technology be deployed at scale?
  • How should training and onboarding be performed?
  • How should ongoing technical support be provided to the workforce?
  • How do we involve the patient experience?
