Within our Insight values of Hunger Heart and Harmony, we stand firm with our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion to build cohesive and successful teams. So much so, that it is a pillar of our HR strategy to support building a high-performance organisation.
I believe that our inclusive and culturally diverse organisation allows teammates to learn and work with talented, ambitious, and globally-minded professionals. By doing so, we get to experience different perspectives, traditions and backgrounds from around the world! At Insight, we have a dedicated D&I community on Microsoft Teams that discuss, support and ensure Insight and our teammates maintain our inclusivity efforts. I follow their discussions, and it is great to see the interaction within this community.
Currently, we are in a different situation due to COVID-19, with working from home and interacting through video with one another. Our CEO, Ken, addressed the current climate by sending us all a video announcement clearly stating:
“Remember that Insight stands against racism and discrimination of any kind. We stand for a truly diverse and inclusive culture, and we each need to do our part to accelerate our inclusive culture even further — for all teammates.”
To support our diverse and inclusive culture, we are taking a step in addressing what is known as ‘unconscious bias’. Conscious bias is when someone is aware, intentional and responsive about their prejudice. Unconscious bias is when someone is unaware of and performing something without realisation. Everyone holds unconscious beliefs about things, and it’s how our brains work. To quote the NeuroLeadership Institute “if you have a brain, you have a bias.”
Insight stands for a truly diverse and inclusive culture and therefore, all our EMEA teammates will be required to take an unconscious bias course. The aim of this course is for us to understand how unconscious biases work and how we can influence and change them once we become aware of our own. I look forward to the witnessing the efforts and actions our teammates will take to continue expanding our open culture at Insight.
