Adobe Document Cloud is the complete PDF workflow solution for today’s mobile, connected world. Acrobat desktop software is now combined with the new Acrobat DC mobile app and Document Cloud services, to help you meet end-user demand for mobile solutions, let your organisation build smarter document workflows, and ensure document security across all devices.
Enterprise customers have historically deployed Adobe applications using Serialised Deployment. In serialised deployment, the software is packaged with an embedded serial number and pushed down to the end-user’s workstation. Note that serialised deployment make it impossible for users to access any of Adobe’s Cloud services, mobile apps, or modern workflows such as collaboration.
Named User Deployment allows you to provide end users access to the apps and services they demand for ongoing projects, while establishing the control that IT needs to meet the requirements of the organisation. IT also benefits from a simpler method to maintain compliance as well as management of licenses and services through the Adobe Admin Console.
What is Named User Deployment?
Named user deployment refers to a software deployment where the user is associated with a license.
Users sign in with a credential, such as an email and password, upon launching Creative Cloud and/or Document software, and this credential activates the software. Adobe supports three identity types as listed below.
Federated ID is created, owned, and managed by your organisation. Authentication is provided by your enterprise directory via federation. The organisation manages credentials and processes Single Sign-On (SSO) via a SAML2 identity provider. End users do not control login name or password.
Enterprise ID is created, owned, and managed by your organisation. Adobe hosts the Enterprise ID and performs authentication, but the organisation maintains the Enterprise ID. End users do not control accounts. Software and service entitlements are restricted to what is assigned by the organisation.
Adobe ID is created, owned, and managed by the end user. Adobe performs the authentication and the end user manages the identity. End users retain complete control of their account. Additional software and service entitlements can be added by the end user outside of the organisation’s control.
Recommendation: Use Federated ID
Adobe recommends using Federated ID because it reduces IT workload and offers the best security. Users access cloud services using their standard organisation credentials and IT won’t be burdened with lost password requests. If a user leaves your organisation, the user’s ability to access applications and services ends automatically. Organisations who are not using SSO should use the Enterprise ID type.
When signing into Creative or Document Cloud desktop apps, users simply enter their corporate email address in the sign in screen. Since Adobe knows which domains have been claimed by our customers, once the end user hits tab or clicks in the password field, they are re-directed to your organisation’s Single Sign-On screen.
